FALL 2026 CYCLE

VEP Events.

VEP sponsors the VEPGrants application process in the fall, the recognition of VEPGrants recipients in the winter, and the recognition of both VEPGrants recipients and donors in the spring.

Early Literacy events at elementary school sites, established in the 2025-2026 school year, are held throughout the year based on the needs of individual schools.

FALL

VEPGrants Application Process

Under the leadership of our Co-Vice Presidents of VEPGrants, Marlene McMullen & Patty Kingsley, the main process occurs over a 2-month period in the fall each year but requires many hours of work before and after the application period.

VEPGrants are not only possible because of the generosity of our community but due to the generosity of VEP board members themselves.

WINTER

Recognition of VEPGrants Recipients

During the winter and at a VUSD board meeting, both staff and student VEPGrants recipients are recognized for their success.

This event offers those attending the board meeting in person and online the chance to learn who these recipients are for the current school year.

SPRING

Celebration & Gratitude

Our signature annual spring event, Celebrate & Gratitude, provides VEP an opportunity to celebrate both VUSD staff and student VEPGrants recipients along with the donors who support the program.

School community members as well as others in the community, including elected officials, are invited to this event that features 2 student and 2 educator grant recipients highlighting the positive effects and outcomes of their respective awards. VEP donors, especially major donors, are recognized for the opportunities their donations provide for staff and students alike.

YEAR-ROUND

Early Literacy Events

VEP has a long tradition of supporting early literacy with events such as Storyfest, previously held on a Saturday each fall. Due to changing needs but still aligned with the early literacy goals of the Ventura Unified School District, VEP began sponsoring early literacy events at individual Title I school sites in the 2025-2026 school year.

Tied to site events, VEP donates books to every child in grades TK-2nd grade. Though the format differs from school to school, the result is one highlighting the importance of reading to young students and their families.
